Together

"Bear one another's burdens." (Galatians 6:2)

And come with somebody. The third thing is not only bringing your fear to God; it is refusing to carry it alone, and those two are more connected than we admit. You were not built to be the only person who knows what is happening inside you. We have made a virtue of the opposite. We admire the man who holds it together. We say he is strong, that he does not complain, and what we are usually describing is a man who is alone in a way that will eventually kill him.

Paul says carry each other's burdens, and then he says something startling: in doing so, you fulfill the law of Christ. Not you help out. Not you are being nice. You fulfill the law of Christ. Which means there is an entire commandment of God that cannot be obeyed by yourself. You physically cannot do it alone.

So who knows what you are afraid of? Not who knows the edited version, the prayer-request version, the version safe enough for a hallway. Who actually knows. If the honest answer is no one, then you have not been strong. You have been disobedient, and lonely, and calling it maturity. Find one person this week and hand them one true thing. That is not weakness leaking out. That is the law of Christ finally being kept, because it was written from the start to be kept between people and never inside one.
